Mayor Frey and City of Minneapolis Recognize Community Partners with Workforce Development Awards
Last week, Mayor Frey joined the Minneapolis Workforce Development Board and Minneapolis Employment and Training to celebrate Pillsbury United Communities (PUC) and YWCA Minneapolis for their significant contributions to workforce development.
Both organizations were recognized by mayoral proclamations presented by Mayor Frey at an award ceremony in City Hall.
YWCA Minneapolis received a Promising Practices award for its early childhood education workforce development program. This program helps new immigrants and people of color obtain their child development associate credential and launch their careers in this high-demand field. This program was the first of its kind in the state.
Pillsbury United Communities (PUC) received an Outstanding Innovation award for its hair care stylist workforce development program. PUC has partnered with the Natural Hair Care Institute on a training program that helps young people of color earn a vocational certificate in hair styling, a field where there is high demand and limited training opportunities.
